Doors will be open for the new RancheView School in October.
Despite previous reports of construction delays and opening the school in phases, Rocky View Schools (RVS) administration confirmed in a press release that the school will open its doors to all grades on Oct. 12.
“We are anticipating a number of questions from parents,” said Greg Luterbach, RVS Superintendent of Schools.
Luterbach said there was a letter outlining the transition plan along with a Q&A distributed last week, with both information items posted on the RancheView School website.
The kindergarten to Grade 8 school, located in Cochrane’s Sunset community, opened at the start of the school season allowing kindergarten, Grade 1 and Grade 2 to attend classes, while the school’s Grade 3 to Grade 7 students were accommodated at Mitford School and Cochrane Christian Academy.
RVS administration announced the early opening after Alberta Infrastructure handed the keys over ahead of schedule – initial plans indicated the accommodation plans would continue until January 2017 but now students will be moved to RancheView after the Thanksgiving weekend.
“Due to Alberta Infrastructure placing pressure on the contractor to put additional resources towards the project, the building was turned over earlier than expected,” said Darrell Couture, RVS associate superintendent for business and operations.
“This is great news for our jurisdiction and the families of RancheView School. Administration has moved quickly to ensure RancheView will be ready for students after the Thanksgiving weekend.”
