Redwood Meadows to celebrate Earth Day April 13 at Redwood House

The fourth annual Earth Day will be celebrated in the community of Redwood Meadows at the Redwood House April 13 from 11 a.m.-4 p.m.

The fourth annual Earth Day will be celebrated in the community of Redwood Meadows at the Redwood House April 13 from 11 a.m.-4 p.m.

Organizer Shana Barber-Welsh said there would be something for “anyone and everyone” at the event – an ideal afternoon delight for families.

“The intention is to bring people together to celebrate what groups and individuals are doing to be environmentally conscious.”

The marketplace will boast a number of vendors with environmentally friendly wares — organic, homemade, local and fair trade.

Barber-Welsh said a number of non-profits would be present, discussing their various projects and work.

A few of the attending groups include the Alberta Wilderness Association, the Elbow River Watershed Partnership, the Cochrane Ecological Institute and the Alberta Tomorrow Foundation.

Children and teachers from Bragg Creek schools, including the Little Schoolhouse, Montessori of Redwood Meadows and Banded Peak School will also be present, showcasing their sustainable projects for passersby.

The Redwood Meadows Sustainability Committee — an official branch of the Redwood Meadows town council, puts on the annual event.

Barber-Welsh said there will local artists with their works on display, Earth Day Café with be serving up snacks throughout the day and a number of activities to occupy kids will be ongoing, including seed planting, bird house making and drumming lessons from members of Tsuu T’ina First Nation.

The event is free for anyone to attend.
