Environmentally-conscious citizens of Redwood Meadows will celebrate Earth Day again this year.

A busy day of events is scheduled for the townsite’s hub, Redwood House, on April 21 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The third annual event is being organized by the Sustainable Redwood committee.

It will feature shopping at booths with ethical vendors, crafts and learning opportunities as well as an Earth Day Cafe that will serve whole food items.

Puppet shows will be held at 12:30 and 3 p.m. There will be drumming lessons conducted by members of the Tsuu T’ina Nation.

Among the activities will be a book exchange, walking meditation, nature journaling, fish scale art, guided plant walks, roaming eco-quiz, do-it-yourself cleaning supplies, recycled craft projects and creating clay butterflies.

Vendors include: 10,000 Villages, Picket Fence Trading Co., Juice Plus, Avalon Orchards, Halo Honey, Patterson Spring Farms, Creekside Country Store, McCardle Sisters Soaps, Naaz Handmade Jewellery, Marilyn’s Knits and Yarns and Cozy Quilts.

Organizations taking part include the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society, Fish and Wildlife, Roll Out the Barrel rain barrels, Right to Play, Yoga Within the Heart, Elbow River Watershed Partnership, Raw Food, Sustainable Redwood, Bragg Creek Cross Country Skiing and Vermiculture worms and compost by Dorian.

Sustainable Redwood is also hosting an Earth Day fundraising Zumbathon fundraiser today, April 17, from 6:30 p.m. to 8. The theme is ‘neon’ coloured clothing.

Proceeds go to Sustainable Redwood’s chosen 2013 charity Loving Hand for the Disadvantaged and Aged (LOHADA) — a small, Tanzanian-led, non-governmental organization serving young children at risk of going to the streets and disadvantaged elderly people in Tanzania. Admission is $10 or by donation and all proceeds will go to LOHADA.
