For the second consecutive year, Wild Rose MP Blake Richards has been recognized for his hard work representing the people in his expansive constituency.

The two-term politician was named ‘Hardest Working Member of Parliament and Best Constituency M.P.’ by the 23rd annual Politically Savvy Survey, released May 11 by The Hill Times (conducted by Forum Research).

“I’ve got a great team of staff and volunteers who help me represent our constituency,” he said, adding that the ‘we’ factor cannot be underestimated and confirmed he has been nominated to run again in the upcoming fall election.

He is pleased to have been able to deliver a balanced budget only weeks ago and said from his attendance at Cochrane and Airdrie community events - including the recent Cochrane Trade Show - he feels that people are, overall, happy with the federal budget, including lowering taxes by an average of $6,600 per family and additional breaks for seniors.

Moving forward, he said that should he be elected for a third term he would continue on long-term growth, reducing government red tape and to be a fiscally responsible government that operates as efficiently as possible.

With the Canadian Victims Bill of Rights (C-32) law as of February, which essentially supports enhancing criminal law responses to better meet the needs of victims of crime, Richards is satisfied to see his efforts in this area reach fruition, but that his work here is not over.

With respect to the recent upset in provincial government, he congratulated newly elected leader Rachel Notley and welcomed Banff-Cochrane MLA Cameron Westhead, adding that progress can be made when all levels of government work together, regardless of party..

“As government, we need to set conditions for the private sector to grow (such as push for free trade) and encourage market diversity...to let the private sector do what it does best: create jobs.”
