Risk of frost in Cochrane Monday night warns Environment Canada

Environment Canada issued a frost advisory for a wide swath of Alberta Monday including Cochrane.

Environment Canada’s forecast temperature for the Sundre area Monday night “is a low of zero with patchy frost." 

The federal agency says advisories are issued when temperatures are expected to reach the freezing mark during the growing season, leading to potential damage and destruction to plants and crops.

The May 20 alert for the Airdrie - Cochrane - Olds – Sundre area stated frost may damage some crops in frost-prone areas.

“Cover up plants, especially those in frost-prone areas. Take preventative measures to protect frost-sensitive plants and trees,” the federal agency advised.

It noted periods of rain overnight were expected then would clear. Higher winds in the day would lighten in the evening.

There is a risk of a thunderstorm Tuesday.

Airdrie - Cochrane - Olds – Sundre

Brooks - Strathmore – Vulcan

Cardston - Fort Macleod – Magrath

Cypress Hills Provincial Park – Foremost

Drumheller - Three Hills

Lethbridge - Taber - Milk River

Medicine Hat - Bow Island – Suffield

Rocky Mountain House -Caroline

Whitecourt - Edson - Fox Creek - Swan Hills
