Cochrane and area kids are lining up for their time to shine at the 2014 Cochrane Rotary Youth Talent Festival.

Talented youth, aged 6-18, will take the stage at Cochrane Toyota May 5-7, vying for a spot in the finale at RockPointe Church May 9.

“I think it’s just great,” said Cochrane mom Delynne Lorentzen, mother of 11-year-old Soren and Laec, 9, who shared an Illa Rumpel Scholarship last year.

“It has an element of competition but it’s so encouraging and uplifting for all the kids participating.”

Like last year, the $5,000 in scholarships will be doubled to $10,000 by scholarship donor, Gordon Rumpel.

Soren, a violinist, is thrilled to be competing again this year — finishing last season off with the award for Top Intermediate Instrumental.

“It was a little scary, but my favourite part was after — getting to watch everyone play the pieces they worked so hard on.”

Laec is also excited to participate again this year, as well as performing a duet with his brother.

“I play cello,” he said. “I like that it wasn’t too competitive.”

Delynne said she hopes a lot of Cochranites come out to support grand finale.

Festival organizer, Cyndie Baum, anticipates at least 200 entries this year and is looking forward another successful year of celebrating artistic, talented and creative local youth.
