Rocky View County (RVC) council approved the 2015 base budget Dec. 10, setting county operational spending at just over $109 million and capital spending at a little above $30 million and a property tax increase of three per cent.

In a statement released by RVC, they reported that just over $29 million would be funded by residential property taxes, with approximately the same amount coming from non-residential property taxes.

The remaining amount of just over $91 million will come from building and development permit fees, user fees, provincial grants and other revenue.

Along with the three per cent property tax increase, there will also be a further 1.3 per cent increase that will help fund the operation of the new Bearspaw fire station.

Data from Alberta Municipal Affairs does show, however, that RVC tax rates continue to be among the lowest in the province.

The complete RVC budget will be finalized when council votes on the 2015 Tax Rate Bylaw at a public meeting in April.

This will include any new initiatives council may wish to fund, with $470,300 included in the budget for new initiatives.
