RVC sells land to Bow RiversEdge Campground

It was another step forward for the Bow RiversEdge Campground Society (BRECS) this week.

Rocky View County council voted in favour of selling the 12 acres of land that is currently leased to BRECS on Feb. 13.

Glenn Congram, chair of the BRECS board, said the next step would be to deal with the Town of Cochrane to subdivide the parcel from the larger parcel along the river.

The negotiation to sell the parcel of land has been in the works for around nine months. As long as there are no complications through that process, Congram said the closing date for BRECS to own their lands they have leased will be later this year.

As the society's 15-year lease was up for renewal this year, Congram said the alternative option was to seek ownership of the land.

“We understand developers have looked down there and we wanted to secure the land for investment for ourselves and to ensure that it remains a campground. ”

Former Cochrane Lake Coun. Bruce Kendall said he is thrilled to learn the land sale is moving forward, as he had worked hard on the deal and feels it's a good move to secure the future of the campground.

The BRECS is a not-for-profit business that distributes its net proceeds each year back to the community through grants and bursaries.

Last year, $104,100 went back into the community, including $54,100 in community grants and $50,000 to fire relief for Ft. McMurray.

The society is a partnership between the Cochrane service groups - the Lions and Rotary clubs.

The 143 stalls run at 90 per cent capacity in the summer months; 19 of these stalls can accommodate year-round tenants.
