In a sign that back-to-school season is officially underway and to help families prepare for the new school year, Rocky View Schools (RVS) is hosting its annual My First Ride, an in-person event for new school bus riders presented by RVS bus contractors, later this month.
"Families are welcome to attend the free event on Aug. 21, 22 or 23 to learn more about safely riding the school bus," reads an RSV press release. "Bus contractor and school division staff will be on hand to answer any questions."
The events will take place at the RVS Education Centre, located at 2651 Chinook Winds Drive SW in Airdrie. The material covered at each session will be the same, and afterwards, attendees will be able to ask community-specific questions.

RVS is hosting three separate events, all beginning at 6 p.m. The Aug. 21 event will cater to families in the Cochrane area (including Bragg Creek, Springbank, Westbrook, and Bearspaw); the Aug. 22 event will cater to families in the Airdrie area (including Crossfield, Kathyrn, and Beiseker); and the Aug. 23 event will be fore families in the Chestermere area (including Langdon and Indus).
According to RVS, families can also watch RVS' short bus safety video with information on what to expect and how to stay safe when taking the school bus. The video is available on the RVS website and on YouTube.
Bus service deadline
RVS is also reminding that Aug. 15 is the last day to register for transportation to guarantee bus service on the first day of school.
"Registration received after this deadline may cause delays of two to three weeks," RVS stated, adding a step-by-step guide to registration is available on the RVS Registration & Fee Payment or CCSD Registration & Fee Payment pages of the RVS website.
