Search for missing hiker in Banff National Park, Kananaskis Country

BANFF – Parks Canada and police have been searching for an overdue hiker since Wednesday evening (July 23).

The RCMP say 42-year-old Chad Singer, a resident of Radium, B.C., began his hike near the Aurora Creek trail, located east of Radium Hotsprings, B.C., on July 23.

“He was last seen at 2 p.m. that day hiking in Marvel Pass in Banff National Park,” said Cpl. Gina Slaney, an RCMP public information officer in an email.

“This trail system can connect to trails near Marvel Lake and the trail network between Sunshine Mountain, Banff and Mount Shark in Kananaskis.”

Parks Canada search and rescue team was called out Thursday night as darkness approached, and air and aerial searches via helicopter continued throughout the day on Thursday.

Kelly Veillette, public relations and communications officer in Banff National Park, said Singer was last near near Marvel Lake.

"The individual became separated from his hiking partner near Penny’s Peak around (2 p.m.) on July 23 and did not return to their meeting point at Aurora Lake," she said in an email.

"Ground search efforts began around (8 p.m.) that evening and are ongoing in coordination with RCMP and other partners."

Singer is described as: Fair complexion, 5 feet 11 inches tall and 190 pounds, brown hair and green eyes.

He was wearing a burgundy sweater and black shorts and he was carrying a small backpack.

“If you are hiking in this area, please be aware and keep your eyes open for him,” said Slaney.

Police are asking that anyone with information regarding Singer’s whereabouts to contact the Banff RCMP at 403-762-2226.

The Outlook reached out to Parks Canada on Wednesday evening, but had still been given no information by Thursday evening.
