Fast and Female is teaming up with Cochrane’s Sport4Life on Sat., Nov. 21, for the Fast and Female Power Hour, happening at the Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sports Centre in Cochrane. The event, which runs from 4-6 p.m., invites all female athletes from ages 8-18 to join them in a “circus training” workout.

Attending the event will be former NCAA tennis player and Cochrane local Dominica Nemec.

Nemec is a big supporter of this event because she feels girls are often “overlooked in sport” and she wants to help the girls “feel empowered”.

“We want to help the girls feel motivated and inspired in sport,” said Nemec.

She attributes her “leadership abilities” and “organizational skills” to the fact that she has participated in sports her entire life.

According to Lea Norris from Sport4Life, the goal of the event is “to build skill and fitness” through “conditioning.”

“It’s for athletes who like to work hard with their teammates and learn some new skills” according to the event’s flyer.

“We want to get the girls active and get them in a team environment,” said Nemec.

RBC’s Learn to Play Project will also be making a cheque presentation at the event to Sport4Life.

The grant will go toward “coach development and workshops” throughout the next year, says Norris.

Teams and clubs are encouraged to sign up together, and athletes not part of a team are also welcome.

The team or club with the most participation and coach or team leader participation will receive a movement preparation kit.

The fee for registering is $10 per participant and all participants will need running shoes and proper exercise attire.

Those who register will receive a free Fast and Female sport buff.

Those interested can register at Sport4Life’s website sport4lifecochrane.com
