The Bragg Creek and Area Wellness Committee is looking to build strong relationships across the community and improve resident’s health with the release of gratitude postcards.

The committee began their postcard project at the start of March and have printed and stamped more than 300 postcards to be distributed throughout Bragg Creek and Redwood Meadows.

“The response (to the postcards) has been overwhelmingly positive,” said co-chair of the Bragg Creek and Wellness Committee Eric Howey. “My favourite response by far was witnessing a young student from Banded Peak School react with glee and excitement when she first saw the postcards with some of her artwork on them.”

The gratitude postcards have four different designs; two are photographs of the local area donated by Christopher Martin Photography.

The other two designs are a collage of artwork done by a girls’ group from Banded Peak School, the designs represent what the students love about Bragg Creek and its surrounding area.

“It was important to us to showcase local creativity and talent from young and old alike,” said Howey.

The postcards are meant to spread positivity throughout the community and allow people to show their appreciation to others in their community.

“Gratitude is not just a benign act,” said Howey. “Research shows that grateful feelings can have a positive impact on an individual’s health and wellbeing and their ability to cope with stressful situations.”

The postcards are available to residents of Bragg Creek and Redwood Meadows for free with pre-paid postage.

They can be picked up at Redwood Meadows Town Centre, Bragg Creek Community Association, Bragg Creek Family Foods, Yoga in the Heart of Bragg Creek and Creekers Bistro.

Howey added that the committee would evaluate the response of the gratitude postcards and hopes to see if it can continue the campaign, either one-time, ongoing or as a yearly event.

“At this time we anticipate continuing the campaign in some capacity,” said Howey. “But (we) cannot say for certain to what degree it will be continued.”

“Our hope, should the postcards continue, would be to release a new series of designs on an annual basis in a continued collaboration with Banded Peak School and local artists.”
