Three people from Mini Thni have been charged with 11 offences between them after fleeing from Stoney Nakoda RCMP in an attempted stop over a vehicle infraction.
According to an RCMP press release, an officer attempted to stop the vehicle containing the three occupants on May 15, at which point the vehicle fled.
The vehicle was later located near a residence. Mounties secured the area and obtained judicial authorization to enter the home, where they located Butch Holloway, 27, Dale Waskewitch, 35, and Davina Rider, 41.
The three suspects were apprehended with assistance from RCMP Police Dog Services and officers from the Cochrane detachment.
A subsequent investigation seized a weapon, substances believed to be methamphetamine and fentanyl, and drug paraphernalia from the vehicle.
Holloway, Waskewitch and Rider were each charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose, unauthorized possession of a weapon and obstruction.
Holloway was additionally charged with two counts of failing to comply with conditions of a release order. Rider was additionally charged with flight from police, refusal to provide a breath sample, possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle, failure to comply with conditions of a release order and charges under the Traffic Safety Act.
“Stoney Nakoda RCMP remain committed to the Stoney Nakoda Nation and our mandate of 'Safe Homes, Safe Communities,'" stated inspector Dave Brunner, Cochrane RCMP detachment commander, in the press release. “We are working hard to reach this goal, and we encourage members of the community to report any suspicious activity to police."
Rider was remanded into custody following Judicial Interim Release hearings, while Holloway and Waskewitch were released with conditions to appear in court. All three accused are set to appear for their next hearing at Cochrane Provincial Court on May 24.
