COCHRANE— Fireside School received information that an individual attending classes tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday (April 29), according to a letter that was sent to parents by principal Dave Banderk and vice-principal Jackie Root.
The letter indicated that contact tracing at the school may take longer than usual due to the number of classes impacted.
All kindergarten classes, and classes 2-3 with Mrs. O’Neil, 3-1 with Ms. Larsen, 3/4 with Mr. Shaw and 7-2 with Mrs. Mejia have not been impacted and students continue to attend school in-person, the letter states.
All other classes have been asked to stay home until contact tracing has been completed, and the school is able to accurately determine which students are impacted, and quarantine periods can be calculated, says the letter.
Communications director with Rocky View Schools, Tara de Weerd, confirmed that a high number of kids have been asked to isolate, but noted "it is the nature of the positive case in the school that increased close contact numbers and not due to actual high numbers of positive cases within the school," that is the reason students have been asked to isolate.
More information is expected to be provided to parents on Friday (April 30).
