A handful of Cochrane’s main roadways will see upgrades this summer and will include surface improvements, asphalt overlays and concrete repairs.

Five major thoroughfares will be part of the town’s street improvement project (SIP), and include: Glenbow Drive from Fifth Ave to Hwy 22; Railway Street from Nan Boothby Memorial Library to Charlesworth Ave.; Fifth Ave. from Griffin Road to CP Rail tracks; Benchlands Drive and Benchlands Place; and Powell Street between Ross and Pope Avenues (see adjacent map).

Sidewalk and bike lane upgrades will also be done along Glenbow Drive and Railway Street.

“All the roads identified for this year’s SIP are good candidates from these upgrades,” said Rick Deans, senior manager of infrastructure for the town. “The work we do this year will save them from serious deterioration in the coming years.”

The upgrades are funded by provincial grants and road rehabilitation reserves, and was approved by council as part of the 2015 budget.

The majority of the work will take place in July and August and the town said it is likely to cause some traffic disruptions.
