Calling all foodies!
A number of the town’s finest food and beverage providers will be sampling their wares during this fall’s A Taste of Cochrane. The one-day culinary pass is set to run throughout Cochrane on Oct. 5.
The idea of resurrecting the cuisine-sampling event has been revisited by Brooks Tower and Ron Knowles. Tower said he hopes the tour will expose Cochrane’s varied cuisine to new, loyal customers.
“In 2013, Cochrane has an amazing array of food and beverage establishments,” he said. “An event like this is a relatively low cost and low effort way to gain exposure. We want these businesses to succeed and stay in Cochrane for a long, long time.”
So far, seven local businesses have signed up for the four-hour event. From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., tasters can travel between establishments such as Legacy Guitar and Coffee House, The Hideout Pub/Big Hill Pizza and Bergeron Cheese Shoppe.
Each business will offer a sampling of their dishes, be it pizza and beer, a breakfast sandwich or a specialty tea.
“We’ve been here about two years — but we’re still fairly new,” said Stephanie Blais of Bergeron Cheese Shoppe. “There are still people who don’t know that the shop is here.”
Bergeron Cheese Shoppe will be offering tasters samples of an array of goudas, complete with the necessary accoutrements. Blais said that the last time the cheese company participated in a similar initiative, the business gained a number of new customers.
Tower said he’s hoping to have about a dozen businesses participate in the tasting tour.
Event organizers are still on the hunt for local establishments to participate in the event. Contact Brooks Tower at 403-542-5538.
To register for the culinary tour, tickets for A Taste of Cochrane are $25 a piece, and can be purchased online beginning in early September or at any of the participating businesses.
