The 16-year-old suspect accused of attempted murder for shooting Horst Stewin, a German tourist who was visiting Canada with his family back in August, will reappear next week to apply for a bail hearing. The young suspect, who can't be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, appeared on CCTV Tuesday morning from the remand centre wearing a blue sweatsuit. His agent confirmed his legal counsel will be Balfour Der. The boy has been in custody since he was arrested on Aug. 24. The teen is set to appear again next week in Cochrane Provincial Court over CCTV. The defence's agent told the judge they plan to apply for a bail hearing and to move his proceedings to the Provincial Court of Alberta in Calgary to expedite the process. This was the suspect's third appearance in court, the previous appearance was adjourned while the boy was trying to retain legal counsel. The teen faces 14 charges including attempted murder, discharging a firearm with intent and possession of a prohibited weapon. His mother once again was present, watching from a bench in the back of the courtroom. Stewin was shot in the head Aug. 2 while driving on Highway 1A near Morley. He has since returned to Germany where the bullet was removed from his brain. It has been sent to Canadian authorities for ballistics testing.
