The Crossing at Ghost River launching program to thank essential workers

“I think a lot of people are just at the end of their rope,” Guetg said. “I hope some people will take advantage of it.”

BIGHORN— Celebrating front-line workers and the critical role they play in the community, The Crossing at Ghost River has launched a program to thank them for their important work.

The Crossing at Ghost River has launched a special program for health care workers, paramedics, police officers, firefighters and teachers to ensure frontline heroes have the opportunity to relax and recharge at the retreat, said general manager Jori Guetg.

Frontline heroes have been working hard for the past 12 months and have faced incredibly stressful environments, Guetg said. Their experience inspired the Crossing at Ghost River to launch a special program to honour them.

The program provides a discounted rate for workers to stay one or two nights. The promotion includes accommodation and meals for the month of March.

“I think a lot of people are just at the end of their rope,” Guetg said. “I hope some people will take advantage of it.”

The Crossing has already seen some bookings, he said, but they are hoping to see more essential workers come by for a visit.

The Crossing at Ghost River is located 20 minutes west of Cochrane and is nestled on 145 acres along the back of the Ghost River.

“It’s really peaceful out here,” Guetg said. “People can walk down to the river and hang out and take in nature.”

A visit to The Crossing offers guests the chance to have a distraction-free weekend and reconnect with nature.

While the dining room at the centre is currently practicing physical distancing, Guetg said, his team is counting down the days to when health measures to be eased so people will once again be able to sit together and connect.

The Crossing will be hosting experiences this summer with local partners including a hike into the Ghost watershed, ranching opportunities and other activities.

“We’re looking forward to connecting people with each other, but also with nature,” Guetg said.

He hopes those that visit enjoy the area as much as his team does.

There are seven full-time employees at the retreat, most of whom are from the Cochrane area.

Guetg and his team are no strangers to giving back to the community and take pride in supporting those in need.

When the pandemic hit one of their initial goals was to explore ways to help out the community.

It has been challenging connecting with community members during COVID-19, he said, but they have found ways to help bring the community together when possible.

The essential workers' program comes after The Crossing at Ghost River provided more than 6,000 meals and 3,000 cups of soup to charities, including Helping Hands, and front-line workers since April 2020.
