The Cochrane Tourism Association left the visitors of their open house a little hungry, but not for food.

Along with refreshments and mingling, the open house session, held on Jan. 29 at the Days Inn and Suites in Cochrane, provided a glimpse into the organization’s initiatives for the upcoming year.

Among them: the Still Hungry for Adventure 2013 program.

“We wanted to collect a lot of activities that could be put together in a vacation package based on the abilities and interests of the visitors,” said Hillary Richardson, executive director of the tourism group.

The adventures include activities like hiking, white-water rafting, paintball and horseback riding.

Numerous association members will be taking part in this initiative, including Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park, MacKay’s Cochrane Ice Cream, and new members, Calaway Park, Cochrane Lanes and Stray Worx Trout Charters.

“The program encourages visitors to choose an adventurous activity in the area, then come to Cochrane to eat and sleep for the night,” said Richardson.

A pilot project, named Hungry for Adventure, ran throughout tourism’s high season from April to September of 2012, she said.

This time around, in addition to the good-weather activities, the program will feature leisure activities to encourage people to visit Cochrane during the off-season — like bowling, browsing art galleries and checking out the town’s restaurants.

Still Hungry for Adventure 2013 is set to kick off during the Calgary’s Outdoor Adventure and Travel Show, held March 23-24 at the BMO Centre in Stampede Park.
