Do you love playing golf as much as you love cute and cuddly animals? Then this is the fundraising event for you.
The Cochrane and Area Humane Society is having its 11th annual fundraising golf tournament starting at 9 a.m. on Aug. 14 at the Links of GlenEagles Golf Course.
“It is a really fun day and it is such a beautiful course overlooking the town of Cochrane,” said Denise Meade, fund development manager for the Cochrane and Area Humane Society.
Meade said every year they have puppies greeting participants as they register and they will also have two golf carts driving around giving out water and snacks that will be decorated as a cat and a dog.
“They are like works of art,” said Meade.
She said they are hoping to raise as much as they did last year, which was $40,000.
All of the proceeds from the event go towards supporting the internal animal hospital at the Humane Society where Meade said they do all of their own light surgery, spay and neutering, and general medical care for all of the animals that come in.
She said they also do emergency services for animals that come in after hours.
Meade pointed out they are lucky to have their own hospital and the tournament pays for 10 months of supplies.
She said it costs $250 to sign up per golfer or $4,000 for a team. They have 22 teams signed up so far and a total of 34 teams can join the fun.
When you sign up you get 18 holes of golf, a lunch and dinner.
They will have various prizes for both teams and individuals throughout the day. Some of those prizes include golf bags, Calgary Flames tickets, rounds of golf, wine and more.
