"All Alberta municipalities are required to have a voter registry for the 2025 election."

As Cochrane enters election season, the Town is reminding residents to register early for a smoother voting experience ahead of the 2025 municipal election.

In a post shared on the Town of Cochrane’s official Facebook page, the municipality emphasized the importance of early voter registration in light of new provincial requirements.

“New provincial rules now require all Alberta municipalities to have a voter registry for the 2025 election,” the Town stated in response to a comment. “It’ll take longer at the polling station if you’re not registered, so residents are encouraged to register ahead of time.”

Voter registration can be completed online at www.cochrane.ca/vote, where residents must provide details from a valid driver’s licence or government-issued ID.

Election day is set for Oct. 20, with advance voting opportunities scheduled for Oct. 11, 14, 16 and 18.

As of now, Paul Singh and Dan Cunin have formally announced their candidacies for council. Dean Hopkins and current Mayor Jeff Genung are in the running for the mayoral seat, with Councillor Morgan Nagel expected to file his nomination shortly.
