The Town of Cochrane is warning residents to be more coyote aware.
"Coyotes are more active than usual in Cochrane right now due to mating season (January - March). During this time, they may be seen gathering in groups and can become more territorial, especially towards dogs," the Town said on its Facebook page.
The Town also suggested several safety tips for consideration:
• Keep dogs on a leash, especially larger dogs who could be seen as a threat or smaller ones who might be prey.
• Supervise young children when outdoors.
• Avoid approaching coyotes and give them plenty of space.
"Coyotes are most active at dawn and dusk but can be spotted during the day if they have access to food or shelter," the Town's post concludes. "Talk to your neighbours about keeping the area safe and reducing attractions for coyotes.Together, we can coexist safely with our local wildlife."
