When Town of Cochrane officials were looking for some unique artwork for their Holiday cards, they went to a very special local source.
Some of Cochrane’s young artists took part in a friendly competition to have their art featured on the front of the town Holiday cards.
This is the first year the town has held the competition.
“The kids are so enthusiastic,” said art instructor Jola Muran. “I hope to see this every year and maybe even expand it.”
There were two classes involved in the competition, the town’s art development and art exploration classes. The kids in the classes ranged in age from six to 11.
Muran said that she gave the students some guidelines and asked them to include some subject matter relating to Cochrane in their art.
Muran said she decided to keep it simple by asking the student to create drawings using pencil crayons and to make something they felt comfortable with.
Cochrane council had a jury system and they selected the winners. There were two first place winners, two second place winners and two third place winners.
The two first placed art works will appear on the front of two separate Holiday cards for the Town of Cochrane and all other artwork will be featured on the inside of the cards.
All participants received a ribbon and their artwork was on display at the Cochrane RancheHouse.
The students met with Mayor Ivan Brooker Friday, Dec. 12 where their artwork was displayed and the winners were announced.
