Conservative Cochranites looking to dig their teeth into local United Conservative Party (UCP) grassroots opportunities are encouraged to make their way down to the Cochrane Legion at 9 a.m. on April 14.
The meet and greet event is an info session hosted by the existing Banff-Cochrane UCP constituency association, looking to inform citizens about the coming riding split, what the association will be bringing to the table for the UCP founding convention in early May and ways to get involved as a volunteer.
It’s also an opportunity for curious conservatives to ask questions.
“Cochrane has had huge input into the ongoing policy process,” said Philip Cape, vice-president of fundraising for the local constituency association, adding that with more than 1,400 UCP members in this riding so far it makes it one of the highest per capita memberships in the province.
Cape said a key grassroots measure is to take part in the UCP’s second online survey, which is available at unitedconservative.ca.
“Actual membership participation in the survey hasn’t been high and we really want people to participate in what really is a grassroots movement.”
As politically charged Albertans await the election writ drop for spring 2019, volunteers ready themselves for the official split of the existing Banff-Cochrane riding – into Airdrie-Cochrane and Banff-Kananaskis.
Cape said that Banff-Kananaskis will hold an annual general meeting for its soon-to-be-formed constituency association in the coming months.
The Saturday morning event will run from 9 a.m. to noon. Admission is $10 and a non-perishable food bank donation for the Cochrane Activettes Food Bank.
Coffee, muffins and cookies will be served.
