In the freezing cold months of winter in Alberta, one thing that may be able to help someone escape would be to curl up with a good book.
The Cochrane and Area Humane Society (CAHS) is the place to load up with a healthy dose of literature before the snow hits.
The CAHS will be having its semi-annual book sale that will be running from Friday, Oct. 17 to Sunday, Oct. 19 from 12 – 5 p.m. each day, at the Humane Society.
“It is a super fun event and we have thousands of books,” said Denise Meade, fund development manager with the Humane Society.
She said they have everything from new releases to cookbooks to CDs and DVDs. Basically, name a genre, and it will be available at the sale.
All of the books are donated and Meade said they are still accepting donations of gently used books, CDs and DVDs up until Wednesday, Oct. 15.
The event is sponsored by Big Hill Veterinary Services and all of the funds raised go towards the animal shelter at the Humane Society. This includes things such as medicine, food, critical care and emergency care for the animals.
The event happens in spring and fall and Mead said they typically raise about $5,000 per event.
