Historical downtown is now a great place to pee.
You read that right, after a campaign was launched last December by Cochrane’s historical downtown business owners to have public washrooms downtown, the town has found a solution – move the Visitors’ Information centre to First Street W.
While there have always been public washrooms in historical downtown, located at the previous downtown visitor information centre, by the Cochrane Family & Community Support Services (FCSS), closer to Highway 1A, Mike Korman, manager of economic development, said downtown business owners were frustrated with the lack of public necessities in the downtown core.
“Historical downtown business owners always wanted washrooms on Main Street, so we made this decision based on the feedback and to help them out to facilitate that need,” Korman said.
The move will be a pilot project as the town only signed a one-year lease.
“We are still looking for a long-term solution,” Korman said.
“But we will be tracking the visiting numbers over the summer months and if this spots seems to be working then maybe this can be a long-term solution and we can stop pursuing other options.”
The Cochrane Visitor Information Centre’s new location will be at 521 First St., (formerly Sweet Temptations) open from May long weekend to Labour Day, Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday, Sunday and holidays 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Additional public washrooms are available at The Rockyview Hotel.
