Water Valley Community Hall gets financial boost

The Water Valley Community Association is $8,800 better off after the federal government’s investment on Feb. 5.

The Water Valley Community Association is $8,800 better off after the federal government’s investment on Feb. 5.

Announcing the grant through the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund, Wild Rose MP Blake Richards said the funds would go toward upgrading the interior of Water Valley Community Hall to extend the lifespan of the facility.

Association president Larry Mizera said they are very grateful for the funding.

“The hall is rented for many functions and we do serve large meals such as turkey suppers that are attended by 400-plus people,” said Mizera, “and we would now like to start local part-time cooking classes to add to the activities. We appreciate all the generous support to keep our charitable organization going forward and keeping an active bond in our community for the residents living here.”

In addition to modernizing the interior of the hall, exterior upgrades to the outdoor playground equipment and signage are also on the agenda.

“I’m proud to see the community of Water Valley benefit from our government’s support for community infrastructure,” said Richards. “This investment will help create jobs, growth and will support the prosperity of the community for years to come.”

The federal government has a budget of $150 million over a two-year span as part of its Economic Action Plan 2012 for these types of modernization projects, supporting upgrades to existing community infrastructure facilities, including recreational buildings, local arenas and community centres.
