Once again, Water Valley is celebrating its community, but packed into one special day instead of two. Water Valley Day will take place Aug. 8, with festivities condensed into the Saturday event.

The day kicks off with breakfast at 8 a.m. until 10 a.m. with the parade starting at 10 a.m., as well. Gun-fighting re-enactors of Guns of the Golden West will be on hand to give Water Valley residents an old-west spectacle with their fast-draw display.

There will be children’s games, a kid’s train and face painting by Fotos by Fox. New this year is a bouncy castle, which runs all day.

The baseball tournament runs all weekend, and any team is free to sign up and can number 12 to 16 players. The beer garden opens at noon with entertainment by the band Cat Country at 8 p.m. If you’re itching for a hearty lunch, there will be a chili cook off at 2 p.m. But be sure to make room for roast beef dinner, which runs from 5-7 p.m. and costs $12 for adults, $6 for six to 12 year olds and free for six and under.

A horse gymkhana, which is an equestrian event consisting of speed pattern racing and timed games for riders on horses, is happening as well. If you enjoy a little gambling, there’s a poker derby and cribbage tournament.
