Christmas cheer will be filling the Water Valley Church and Events Centre with a performance of A Christmas Carol Dec. 7.
Calgary storyteller Steven Méthot, accompanied by harpist Natalie Manzer, will be presenting an abridged version of the Charles Dickens classic.
Manzer explained that this means the classic story is shortened into a one-man play, with Méthot playing the part of Dickens telling the story.
At Méthot and Manzer’s request, all of the proceeds from the event will be going towards the Water Valley Community Hall building fund.
Manzer said they decided to do this because the quartet that her and Méthot are a part of, called Diminished Fifth, have been playing the annual Celtic Festival in the area since its inception.
“We as a Celtic folk festival need the hall,” said Manzer. “It totally makes sense to us to put this on as a benefit for helping to rebuild the hall. We all need it.”
Tickets for the event are $25 and are nearly sold out. Tickets will not be sold at the door and can be purchased by calling 587-226-7567.
