Westbrook School will be keeping tradition alive this weekend with the 54th running of their School Fair.

Students will put their skills to the test for the annual fair, with judging beginning April 11. The school will open the fair up for public viewing April 12. From 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., people are welcome to file in and out of the K-8 school to take in the student talent, congratulate winners and help students fundraise for future projects. The gym will be filled with the work of students in a wide range of categories, including baking, horticulture, woodworking, science/technology, writing and photography.

“There’s a little bit of something for everyone,” said Beth Horne, a member of the organizing committee. “The fair gives kids an opportunity to find a skill where they can shine.”

Presentation and judging for the “Pets” category will commence outside of the school at about 1 p.m. In the past, this division has seen students showing off their ducklings, horses, dogs, cats and lizards.

In addition to the displays of student handiwork, fairgoers can check out the Grade 6 bake sale; proceeds will fund the class’ trip to Camp Chief Hector YMCA. A children’s activity room and a tea room will also be up and running. Westbrook School is located about 20 kilometres north of Cochrane along Highway 22. For more information, dial 403-932-5443.
