As St. Patrick’s Day draws near, Cochranites have plenty of local opportunities to don the colour green and embrace the spirit of the Irish saint throughout town on March 17.
Rocky View Brewing Company Taproom
Leading up to St. Patrick’s Day, The Rocky View Brewing Company will host a special St. Patrick Day themed trivia night on March 14 at 6:30 p.m.
Then, on Friday, March 17, the taproom will be running a happy hour from 3 to 5 p.m. Additionally, the executive chef from the taproom will create a mead from scratch. It will also feature St. Patrick’s Day staples including green beer alongside Shamrock Specials.
The taproom will also feature local artist Alex Ward, who will be performing live music from 7 to 10 p.m.
To close out the weekend, the taproom will host a special Sunday brunch that will offer green beer and Irish coffee. Co-owner of Rocky View Brewing Company, Denean Thorsen, invites locals who wish to partake in St. Patrick’s Day festivities to drop by
“Rocky View Taproom is the hottest place in town to be at, so come on down and enjoy some amazing beer, excellent food, and good times with us,” Thorsen said.
BGC Cochrane and Area
Events and activities by BGC Cochrane and Area aim to provide a variety of St. Patrick’s Day activities for youths between the ages of 13 and 18.
On March 10, they hosted their Green is the Theme, which as the namesake suggests, had guests create arts and crafts using green as the central theme.
Additionally, on March 16, BGC Cochrane will host a Lucky Bingo Night which will be Irish- and St. Patrick’s Day-themed.
For the St. Patrick’s Day festivities, the club will host a special breakfast for dinner that features green eggs as part of the meal.

“It’s a great way for youths to meet one another and participate in fun crafts and just build relationships with one another,” Poppe said.
Cochrane Legion
Royal Canadian Legion, Men of Vision, Branch No. 15 plans to host a dinner and dance to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day on Friday.
As part of the festivities for the evening, an Irish-like dinner will be served to guests at 6:30 p.m. which will consist of a stew made with beef, followed by apple crumble for dessert.
Later on in the evening, a dance will take place with a live performance by the band May Contain Alcohol, which will kick off at 7:30 p.m.
The price to attend the dinner and dance is $20 while the cost to only attend the dance is $10. For more information, anyone interested can call the legion at 403-932-2011.
