It's not often the rumours spilling out of the mill are accurate, but in this case, they are.
A new sign that popped up on 5th Avenue confirms it. The site of the old Canadian Tire building will soon be home to a Winners and Cochranites are excited.
A post shared to Cochrane Rant and Rave shows the sign with a May 31, 2022, opening date.
"Rave... we have an opening date," wrote Facebook user Tanya West in her post. "Rant... my poor bank account."
Two development permit applications were issued last April. One for a drive-thru style restaurant on the west side of the building where the garden centre was and the other for the whole building itself.
"We have an application to split it up into about eight different commercial units," Korman told the Eagle in November.
Rumours of a Popeyes fast food chain and Winners as potential tenants stirred among the community.
"I cannot confirm that in any way because the developer does not necessarily need to tell us who's coming," Korman said then.
It will be nice to have more services in Cochrane, Korman said, explaining that this will also create non-residential tax gains.
"It's always good to take these smaller or dilapidated stores and refresh them and then they have more of an assessment value in which we get more taxes from," said Korman.
He added it is especially important to get more buildings in the downtown core area because this will increase the tax revenue.
