Rocky View County (RVC) will be hosting a community workshop June 18 to gather information and feedback to help inform the ‘Bragg Creek Revitalization Plan’.

The workshop runs from 6-9 p.m. and will be held at the Bragg Creek Community Centre; details will be on rockyview.ca next week.

The plan, which was set into high gear following the June 2013 flood that devastated the nearby hamlet (and Redwood Meadows), will likely result in recommended policy changes to the Greater Bragg Creek Area Structure Plan.

“Since that (area structure) plan was adopted by council in 2007, many changes have occurred in the hamlet and its expansion area,” explained Grant Kaiser, manager of communications for the RVC.

“Most notably, the installation of water and wastewater infrastructure, which now allows for new types of development opportunities.”

According to Kaiser, the four pillar focal areas include: economic development (‘getting the balance right between the residential and business aspects of the community and ensuring the right kind of economic development’); physical improvements (‘ensuring roads, open spaces and other infrastructure support the future vision’); policy amendments (‘clarifying, adding or removing parts of the area structure plan to support the vision’); and community and culture (‘ensuring a high quality of life for our residents’).

The top five priorities have been identified by the County project team: pathways and connections; housing diversity; business/economic development; beautification/community enhancement; and infrastructure/safety.

Community engagement will inform how these priorities are addressed.

Kaiser said that implementation of the area structure plan would be dependant on community, not just government, support.

The targeted completion date for the plan is this October and implementation is ‘contingent on the timing of the flood mitigation efforts within the hamlet’.
