Cochrane Search and Rescue assures the community that they are ready to mobilize in the event to help with wildfire fighting efforts at home or across Alberta.

Due to the ongoing fires in the mountains near Jasper and Water Valley, the Air Quality Index for the Cochrane area remains very poor.

As of Wednesday, July 24, the Town of Cochrane has put new fire restrictions in place banning open fire pits, town fire pits, backyard fire pits, outdoor fireplaces, chimneys, forno ovens, and indoor wood-burning fireplaces.

“A fire crew is currently actioning this fire,” states Parks Canada in a social media post.

State of emergency declared for area northwest of Cochrane in case more evacuations are required.
