27 students from various grades will be participating in the field trip and performing in Vancouver.

“For me, International Women’s Day is a time to celebrate diversity, equity, and inclusion,” SLS Centre CEO Erin Wagner said.  “But also recognize that we have a long way to go in terms of getting to where all genders have equal opportunity."

Alanna Berger, assistant principal of the school, said the event is an annual celebration that has been held at Elbow Valley Elementary School for upwards of 10 years.

The Chaos emerged victorious on Saturday night at the Bowness Sportsplex, beating the Jags 3-2 in overtime to secure the series sweep and book their spot in the AJFHL final.

It was the third highest gold medal count for any one area of the province, other than Calgary and Edmonton.

Catriona Matheson has been awarded a Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal in recognition of her work rehabilitating wildlife at the Cochrane Ecological Institute (CEI).

The Gens tied the series 2-2 thanks to a 6-4 win in game four on Wednesday night, and will be hoping to keep the winning ways going in southeast Alberta tonight.

Regardless of how students performed, Wesley said the event is all about drumming up some school spirit and getting the student athletes together to do something they may not have time for in their busy schedule chock-full of classes, practice time, and travelling for competitions. 

“I can’t believe the fastest growing community in the province was completely looked past,” Fluker said.
