According to the 2023 Alberta Summer Games’ athlete database, 62 athletes competing in this year’s games called Cochrane their hometown.

“They just keep putting the work in and the results are showing on the pitch. You can’t really ask for anything more than that.”

The Bow Valley Rugby Club's U16 and U18 girls' squads featured in a double-header at Mitford Park last Friday, taking on teams from Calgary in back-to-back encounters.

Johnson said the competition is truly heating up for the Piranhas as they prepare for regionals, which is followed by provincials in August.

“It is a big statement for our group and it just shows we’re finally getting the attention we deserve,” said Stainthorpe. “People are finally starting to talk about our team as one of the powerhouses of the league.”

Amid a busy summer of back-to-back swim meets taking place nearly every weekend, Preston said the Piranhas athletes are excited to compete in their home pool for a change. 

"The junior girls would love the support, so feel free to drop by at Mitford for a fun-filled Friday night of rugby," Sato said.

“It should be some really good soccer for people to come out and see,” Tereposky said.

Looking a bit further down the road, Koch said he hopes to eventually receive an NCAA scholarship, which would enable him to play university hockey south of the border.
