Come September, friends and former Cochrane Lions football teammates Bennett Fauth and James Drake will don different jerseys – one red and one blue – but first, they’ll play one last game on the gridiron together for Team Alberta

After a lengthy WHL campaign, Seattle Thunderbirds player and Cochrane native Tyrel Bauer is heading to Winnipeg later this summer, in hopes of playing for the Jets next season.

The U21 men’s box lacrosse team currently holds the top spot in the RMLL central division with a 9-5 record in the season. Silvertips’ captain Nolan Oakey also leads the division in scoring, with 31 goals and 38 assists.

Jacqueline O’Driscoll, 42, of Rocky View County has been charged with abduction in contravention of custody order and Michael O'Driscoll, 72, of Cochrane has been charged with public mischief. Both will appear in Cochrane Provincial Court on July 26

The Cochrane and District Agricultural Society is promising more fun than ever at this year’s Cochrane Fair, slated to go for two days instead of one, Aug. 19 and 20. This year’s version leans more toward music and family fun than it perhaps did in previous years.

Held at the Cochrane Ag Society on June 11, the Angry Hawk Youth-Duro event attracted competitors from ages four to 16 years old from across the province to compete in four downhill stages on the Buffalo Bean trail network

"The season and scores might have not gone our way, but I couldn’t have asked for a better group to work with," she said. "As coaches, it was a pretty awesome season. We had a lot of fun and enjoyed working with them. They’re solid characters all around.”

Springbank coach Shaylynn Tell said it was an exciting victory for the boys, especially considering the cancellation of the two previous high-school boys' soccer seasons due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The club’s swimmers made a splash by amassing 24 first-place finishes and 22 second-place wins, while 17 Piranhas swimmers paddled and kicked their way to third at the meet in Didsbury June 4

The Cobras entered 30 athletes in various events and came away with 16 medals – good for 514 points and first place overall in the ASAA's 3A division.
