After a pair of wins over the Calgary Titans and the Lethbridge Eagles on Nov. 30 and Dec. 1, the Cochrane Chaos have now won four games in a row in their Alberta Junior Female Hockey League (AJFHL) season to improve their record to 10-4-1 on the season. "I think it's been a pretty steady year. I really like the depth on our team this year and I think we've been very consistent in the games we've played. Our record has been strong, we've won four games in a row and the game we have lost, we played really good games and just had some bad luck here and there," head coach Derek Loomer said. "The teams we've played this year have been really strong and I think our depth is better, a little bit more consistent through our four lines but losing the league's top scorer in Bre Martin, I think have sort have taken a little bit off that top level. A few girls have really stepped up throughout all four lines have really stepped up at both ends of the ice." "I think everyone is settling in. At the start of the year, things might be a little more scrambled and there's a little less attention to detail in your own end of the ice. I think as the seasons progressed, people have started to get more comfortable with one another and understand their roles. It gives everyone the ability to do their own jobs which helps us buckle up in our own end of the ice." "On the offensive side, it's key that we became more familiar with one another to gain that comfort and we're starting to become more creative which obviously leads to more offence. I think that's sort of where the progression is and our newer girls are starting to get more familiar with the league and what it's about so they've really stepped up as well." In the game against the Titans, Cochrane found themselves down 3-1 after the first period but battled back to score three second period goals while Jenna Weseen thwarted off any chance for Calgary to tie the game in the third, making many of her 22 saves during the frame. Cochrane got goals from Audrey Buston, Callie Cummins, Faith Gette and Kari Pedder. Cochrane finished up their two game weekend with a contest against the Lethbridge Eagles. The Chaos took an early lead in the first, made it 2-1 in the second and then got two goals in the third to double up on the Eagles with a 4-2 victory. Ryann Altwasser, Faith Gette, Aspen Kozak and Alyson MacDougall found the back of the net for the home side, with goaltender Manon Tetrault making 24 saves for the win. "I think this stretch has come down to just overall determination," Loomer said. "They've shown a level of consistent effort game in and game out ... each shift they've shown the willingness to compete and the focus on winning their battles on the ice which then translates into wins on the score sheet." The Chaos will now face off with the Calgary Jags on Dec. 8 and the Central Alberta Amazons on Dec. 16 before departing for Christmas break. The team will get back into action on Jan. 12 against the Amazons.
