The Cochrane Piranhas just kept the medals coming while the team was in Didsbury for a July 7 meet.
The Piranhas were led by Rylan Carnegie, who had an outstanding day with first place finishes in the 25 metre backstroke, 25 metre flutter, 25 metre freestyle, 50 metre backstroke and a second in the 50 metre freestyle. Natalie Barreto-Waringer swam to third place finishes in the girls 13-and-14-year-old 100 metre butterfly and the 50 metre backstroke with Cadence Bashow finishing first in girls six and under 25 metre flutter and second in 50 metre backstroke. Reid Boukall placed second in boys seven-year-old 25 metre backstroke and third in 25 metre fly, while his teammate Sam Cheverie saw his hard work pay off with a second place finish in the boys six and under 25 metre backstroke, 50 metre backstroke, third in 25 metre flutter as well as a third place finish in the 25 metre freestyle.
Jacob Corcoran had a first place finish in the boys seven-and-eight-year-old 25 metre backstroke, the 25 metre freestyle and second in the 50 metre freestyle with Kaitlyn Eiserman also taking home a first place finish in the girls nine and 10-year-old 100 metre freestyle, second in the 50 metre butterfly and third in the 25 metre butterfly, as well as the 50 metre freestyle. Quinn Fitzsimmons had a third place finish in the boys 11 and 12-year-old 200 metre individual medley (IM) and Jamie Harris had a first place finish in the girls 15 to 17-year-old 100 metre backstroke, 100 metre butterfly as well as second in both the 50 metre freestyle and the 100 metre individual medley.
Oliver Johnson had a third place finish in the boys nine and 10-year-old 100 metre freestyle, Tegan Lester-Olivier had a second place finish in the girls nine and 10-year-old 100 metre freestyle and Travis Lester-Olivier had a first place finish in the boys nine and 10 year-old 100 metre freestyle. Travis' brother, Troy Lester-Olivier, had a third place finish in the boys 13 and 14-year-old 100 metre butterfly.
Levi Lewko swam to a second place finish in the boys 13 and 14-year-old 100 metre backstroke and third in the 50 metre backstroke while Jade Macosky had a first place finish in the girls 15 to 17-year-old 50 metre backstroke, second in the 50 metre butterfly, and third place in both the 100 metre IM and the 100 metre butterfly.
Bria Michalski had a second place finish in the girls 13 and 14-year-old 100 metre breaststroke and 200 metre IM, Grace Pawliuk had a second place finish in the girls seven and eight-year-old 50 metre backstroke, Josie Powers had a second place finish in the girls 11 and 12-year-old 100 metre breast and Aaron Swedlo placed third in the boys 14 and under 800 metre freestyle. Aaron's younger sister, Catherine Swedlo, placed second in the girls 13 and 14-year-old 50 metre freestyle, second in the 50 metre backstroke and third in the 50 metre butterfly.
After that impressive list of personal results, the Piranhas relay teams also had some good placements at the Didsbury meet.
In the girls 12 and under 200 metre medley relay the team of Madison Nugent (backstroke), Teagan Lester-Olivier (breast), Kaitlyn Eiserman (butterfly) and Quinn Cheverie (freestyle) came in second place, while in the girls 14 and under 200 metre medley relay the team of Anjali Simms (backstroke), Natalie Barreto-Waringer (breast), Madyson Cheverie (butterfly) and Josie Powers (freestyle) came in first place.
The team of Eli Fitzsimmons (backstroke), Owen Johnson (breast), Travis Lester-Olvier (butterfly) and Kailuam Hill van Hout (freestyle) placed third in the boys 10 and under 100 metre medley relay while the team made up of Levi Lewko (backstroke), Troy Lester-Olivier (breast), Quinn Fitzsimmons (butterfly) and Aaron Swedlo (freestyle) came in second in the boys 14 and under 200 metre medley relay.
“We have three meets before August long as well as Regionals and Provincials so there will be lots of planning on the part of coaching staff,” said Piranhas head coach Breanna Hendriks. “We need to ensure all the swimmers get the appropriate skills they need in order to swim to the best of their abilities.”The team will now have a busy upcoming couple weeks. The next meet will be the Calgary Tritons Invitational on July 14 followed by the Calgary Swordfish meet on July 20 and 21, both in Calgary. To finish off, the team will be in a Canmore meet July 27 and 28 which takes the Piranhas into Regionals and Provincials in August.
