The high school basketball regular season is coming to a close with all three high schools in the home stretch looking to make the playoffs when Cochrane High and Bow Valley teams wrap up their schedules on Feb. 12 and 13 while the St. Timothy clubs finish on Feb. 28.

The Cochrane Cobras and Bow Valley Bobcats junior high girls teams have been off since Jan. 30 when the two teams faced one another in a game that Cochrane High won 56-47 bumping their record to 3-1 on the year while the Bobcats fell to 1-3, their only win coming in a blow out fashion over Bert Church Chargers 85-28. Each team has two games left with the Bobcats facing Chestermere and Springbank while the Cobras will take on Bert Church and George McDougall.

On the junior boys side, the Cobras are dominating the competition. They are 3-0 on the year outscoring their opponents 313-124 including a 100-16 victory over their crosstown rivals. They'll face Bert Church and George McDougall to round out their season looking to finish the year undefeated. Bow Valley on the other hand is looking for their first win on the season when they host Springbank. The Bobcats also competed in a tournament this past weekend in Banff, where head coach David Legg hopes will boost the team to a victory.

"The BVHS Senior Boys team played three hard-fought games in the Banff tournament with enthusiasm, hustle and grit. We scored more points in each game reaching our stated goal of points scored in the finale," Legg said. "We hope to build upon these efforts this weekend in another tournament being held in Rosemary, Duchess and Bassano and hope to return with a few wins and perhaps, more importantly, pride in effort, satisfaction in teamwork and the joy of camaraderie."

The Cochrane Cobras and Bow Valley Bobcats are fighting neck and neck for first place in the senior girls division with the Bobcats undefeated on the year and Cochrane High suffering their only loss to the Bobcats by a score of 50-47. The Bobcats have scored opponents 223-140 while Cochrane has scored 226 points compared to giving up 167. They'll look to meet up once again in the playoffs but they first need to take care of Chestermere and Springbank while Cochrane High will have to take down Bert Church and George McDougall.

The senior boys Cochrane Cobras team is jockeying for playoff positioning. The club currently sits tied with the Bert Church Chargers for third place in the league with equal 2-1 records. With only two games remaining on their schedule, the Cobras likely won't catch first place Chestermere but could meet them once the playoff bracket begins. Cochrane High has proven they can score with the best of them as they rank second in points for with 246 only behind Chestermere's 436. They have a battle with Bert Church to likely decide who'll finish second before playing winless George McDougall to finish out the season.

In the Calgary Senior High School Athletics Association (CSHSAA), the St. Timothy Thunder boys and girls teams are looking to squeeze into the playoffs. The boys team is searching for their first win on the season, but have shown improvements throughout the year and only sit two wins back of potentially even finishing in seventh as four teams sit with identical 2-4 records and two teams only have one win. St. Tim's will likely have to win their remaining three games to reach the playoffs but anything can happen in high school sports.

On the senior girls side, the Thunder are also looking to claim the final playoff spot. The have one win on the season, two wins back of the final playoff spot, currently held by Forest Lawn with four games remaining in the season. The team will have to go on a bit of a winning spree in order to sneak in, but the Thunder proved they could beat some tough teams as they took down sixth seeded Central Memorial 39-32 in a game in December.

The Thunder will take on John G. Diefenbaker at home on Feb. 11.
