The 2018 high school soccer regular season is winding down for all three Cochrane high schools with the Rocky View Sports Association (RVSA) season ending on May 22 before playoffs start on May 24 and the Calgary Senior High School Athletic Association (CSHSAA) season concludes on May 28. The Cochrane Cobras have been rolling through their season, going 4-0-1 in five games heading into their May 22 finale against the 3-1 Bert Church Chargers. The team has scored 18 goals while only allowing nine throughout their games, averaging nearly four goals per game while allowing just over a goal per game over the duration of their season. Cochrane High currently sits at 13 points, three up on Springbank with a game in hand and four up on Bow Valley and Bert Church, although the Cobras have played one more game then both squads. Team captain Thomas Robitaille said his team has worked hard throughout the season to potentially earn top spot in the league. "I would say that our team has worked extremely hard to get to where we are right now. Every game has been its own battle that we've had to overcome and every time we go into those games, we're visualizing a win," Robitaille said. "If we don't, then we wouldn't be playing to our potential. It also helps having the coaching staff that we do because without them keeping us in check, the games would be a lot closer than they have been." Cochrane tied their game 3-3 against Bert Church on May 23. The Bow Valley Bobcats have proven that Cochrane High isn't the only Cochrane-based team that can do some damage in the league playoffs, as the Bobcats have gone 3-1, with their only loss coming to the Cobras by a score of 3-2 in a hard-fought game on May 3. Bow Valley's last two games were blowout wins of the W.H. Croxford Cavaliers by a score of 11-4 while also defeating the last place Chestermere Cowboys 3-0. Bow Valley will wrap up their regular season by hosting George MacDougall on May 22 as well as potentially making up a game with Bert Church that was postponed. The Bobcats improved to 4-1 with a 5-2 victory over George MacDougall. in the CSHSAA, the St. Timothy Thunder have had their struggles this season, going 0-3 on the campaign, but still have three games to clinch the eighth and final playoff spot in a nine team league. Even with their tough start, the Thunder are only one game behind Lord Beaverbrook and are tied with St. Gabriel who are also 0-3. St. Timothy has a busy week ahead as they'll visit the Bowness Trojans on May 22 and then will host the Central Memorial Rams on May 24. The Thunder will wrap up their season May 28 at home against the James Fowler Falcons.
