The Cochrane Generals are running out of bullets with the war just half over.
Beset by injuries to key starters, and suspensions to others for fighting infractions, the Gens brought just 15 skaters to Didsbury for their Dec. 14 Heritage Junior Hockey League battle with the Mountainview Colts.
“Reed Boothby (leg) and Ian McRae (leg) are out for an extended period of time,” said Generals head coach Evan McFeeters. “Logan Brown’s out as well. We’ve lost Brendan Sage for the entire season with a shoulder injury. It seems guys are dropping like flies each and every week.
“Last game, Craig Packard took a shot in the leg and basically finished the game on one leg. He’s questionable for this weekend. But bodies are running thin so we might have to play him anyhow.”
Cochrane lost 3-1 to the Colts a night after dropping a 5-1 decision to the Flyers in High River.
The losses leave the Gens perilously close to the bottom of the league’s South Division standings, one point ahead of bottom-dwelling Medicine Hat, which has two games in hand.
Talus Hume scored for Cochrane in Didsbury with Sayer McDonald scoring the Cochrane goal against High River.
The Generals host the Okotoks Bisons on Dec. 21 at Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sports Centre, 7:30 p.m. puck drop.
