That's what the field of 156 pro golfers will find when they tee it up at the PGA Tour Canada's ATB Financial Classic golf tournament this summer at the Links of GlenEagles in Cochrane.
“‘It gives the Tour guys something different,“ says Links of GlenEagles general manager Slade King of his track's unique layout on the hill overlooking town. “They play a lot of tree-lined private, flat courses across the country. This kind of shakes it up a bit. ”
It may agree with some, but not all, contestants.
“Some guys probably won't like the change, ” King chuckles. “I think everyone will appreciate the different scenery. ”
Along with the four-day tournament, there will be three days of events leading up to the competition. GlenEagles will be closed for public play from July 27-Aug. 2.
“There are activities Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, ” King relates “Pro-Ams and sponsor events early in the week. There will be practice rounds, too. Then the event starts Thursday. ”
But there are opportunities for local players to play tournament conditions immediately before and after the pros tee it up at the 7,019-yard course that will play par-70 for the ATB Classic.
“It gives local guys a good opportunity to play tournament conditions. The same kind of conditions the pros play in, ” King says. “We don't have to do too much to the course. It's a pretty challenging course already. The greens will definitely be fast and in great shape. Grow the rough up a little bit, but nothing crazy. ”
The last pro tournament at GlenEagles was the Nationwide Tour's Calgary Classic event won by Tom Carter. The U.S. golfer carded a 17-under, 263 to win the tourney by five strokes. For tournament volunteer and caddying opportunities visit: atbfinancialclassic.com
