It’s right about now Cochrane Generals head coach Evan McFeeters is rethinking his playing career as a hockey goalie.

McFeeters will be between the pipes when the Cochrane Generals alumni team takes on the current squad Jan. 5 following Cochrane’s Heritage Junior Hockey League tilt against the High River Flyers at Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sports Centre (SLSFSC).

But he’ll have some big boys watching out for him as former Generals stars like Wally Hume, Dave Sissons and Tanner Boothby will be patrolling the ice against the current crop of young guns.

“So all the higher-profile guys throughout the years, we’re trying to get out for the alumni game,” McFeeters said. “We’re trying to make it a big event for the community and this hockey team.

“I’ll be between the pipes,” the former Generals goalie said. “And Tyler Fyten.

“Target practice. That’s what they (current players) keep saying already.”

But he’s not worried.

“We’ve got some big boys on our side, so it’ll keep them in check,” he chuckled.

“It’s coming together.”

The Generals take on the Flyers Jan. 5 at SLSFSC, 5:30 puck drop. The alumni game follows immediately after.
