Cochrane golfer Paul Oldridge is competing for Team Alberta in the 2018 Special Olympics Canada Summer Games that began on July 31 and will go through until Aug. 4 in Nova Scotia. The Special Olympics Canada Summer Games is a national sporting event for competitive athletes with intellectual disabilities. Each athlete must qualify at the local and provincial levels to earn a spot at the national Games. The 2018 Special Olympics Canada Summer Games is also a qualifying event for athletes to represent Canada at the 2019 Special Olympics World Summer Games. There are nine sports featured at the Games: athletics, basketball, bocce ball, rhythmic gymnastics, power lifting, soccer, softball, swimming and of course golf. Oldridge will be one of seven golfers on the Alberta roster as well as the 41 golfers in total from across the country and the 12 year golfer said he's very proud to represent his home province. "It's a huge honour to represent Team Alberta as well as the Town of Cochrane," Oldridge said. "I've been training a lot in order to be prepared for the Games. Been in the gym as well as on the course two or three times a week." "I want to win the tournament but I'm just going to do my best and hope for good results."
