The Cochrane Piranhas swim club dove in for the Calgary Swordfish meet on July 20 and 21.
The team was paced by Natalie Barreto-Waringer who placed second in the girls 13- and 14-year-old 50 metre breast and third in both the 50 metre back and 50 metre free. Rylan Carnegie also topped the Cochrane ranking placing first in the boys six and under 25 metre flutter, 50 metre back, 50 metre free as well as second in the 25 mete free.
Jacob Corcoran placed second in the boys seven and eight-year-old 25 metre fly, Kaitlyn Eiserman placed second in the girls nine and 10 200 metre freestyle and third in the 25 metre back as well as the 100 metre free. Quinn Fitzsimmons placed second in the boys 12 and under 400 metre free and 100 metre fly. Max Kruger placed second in the boys 13 and 14-year-old 100 metre individual medley (IM) and third in the 100 metre free with siblings Tegan Lester-Olivier placing first in the 25 metre fly and third in the 200 metre freestyle, Travis Lester-Oliver placed first in the boys 200 metre free and Troy Lester-Oliver placed third in boys 13 and 14-year-old 200 metre free.
Bria Michalski placed first girls 13 and 14-year-old 50 metre breast, second in 200 metre IM as well as the 50 metre fly. Caebri Smith placed second in the boys 9 and 10-year-old 200 metre free and third in 50 metre back, Mackinley Smith placed first in girls six and 25 metre breast and 25 metre flutter while also finishing second in both the 50 and 25 metre freestyle. Catherine Swedlo placed first in the girls 13 and 14-year-old 50 metre free, second in 400 metre free and 50 metre back. Evan Thibodeau placed third in the boys seven and eight-year-old 25 metre breast with his brother Isaac Thibodeau finishing third in boys nine and 10-year-old 200 metre free.
In the team relays, the girls 10 and under team of Kylan Morin, Rylee Bashow, Tegan Lester-Olivier and Avery Lange placed third in the 100 metre medley relay while the girls 10 and under team of Kaitlyn Eiserman, Rylee Bashow, Tegan Lester-Olivier and Avery Lange placed second in the 100 metre freestyle relay. The girls 12 and under team of Bre Hammer, Danica Richter, Kaitlyn Eiserman and Sydney Carnegie placed third in the 200 metre medley relay while the 12 and under team of Sydney Carnegie, Danica Richter, Clara Washburn and Mackenzie Banfield placed third in the 200 metre freestyle relay.
The girls 14 and under team of Ella Kruger, Bria Michalski, Anjali Simms and Isabella Barreto-Waringer placed second in the 200 metre medley relay with another girls 14 and under team of Bria Michalski, Ella Kruger, Isabella Barreto-Waringer and Anjali Simms placing second in the 200 metre freestyle relay. The girls 17 and under team made up of Kyla Fritz, Natalie Barreto-Waringer, Jade Macosky and Catherine Swedlo placed third in the 200 metre medley relay while the team of Catherine Swedlo, Jade Macosky, Kyla Fritz and Natalie Barreto-Waringer placed second in the 17 and under 200 metre freestyle relay.
In the mixed eight and under category the team of Mackinley Smith, Cadence Bashow, Jacob Wowryk and Gavin Lange placed first in the 100 metre medley relay while another team in the same age category consisting of Cadence Bashow, Jacob Wowryk, Mackinley Smith and Gavin Lange placed third in the 100 metre freestyle relay.
In the boys 12 and under 200 metre medley relay, Isaac Thibodeau, Travis Lester-Olivier, Aaron Swedlo and Eli Fitzsimmons placed second while in the boys 14 and under 200 metre freestyle relay the team of Bryson Hammer, Max Kruger, Troy Lester-Olivier and Aaron Swedlo placed third.
The team will continue to train hard this week heading in to the Canmore Invitational being held July 27 and 28th. That meet will complete the regular season meets for the year and will be followed by regionals August 11 to 12th where the top two swimmers in the events from that meet for their age category will qualify to attend provincials in Edmonton August 17 to 19th.
