Some 40 Cochrane Piranhas swimmers competed in their third meet of the season on June 30. A total of 367 swimmers from the ASSA Region E participated in the Okotoks meet on the weekend.
The Piranhas placed well in the individual categories led by Ben Barclay, who placed first in the boys 11 and 12-year-old 100 metre butterfly and third in the 100 metre freestyle events. Rylan Carnegie placed first in the boys six and under 25 metre flutter board and first in the 25 meter backstroke, while also placing third in the 25 metre freestyle.
Their teammate Kaitlyn Eiserman placed second in the girls nine and 10-year-old 25 metre butterfly, second in 50 metre butterfly, third in 50-metre freestyle and third in the 200 metre freestyle while Eli Fitzsimmons came in second in the boys nine and 10-year-old 200 metre freestyle.
Kyla Fritz placed third in girls 15 to 17 year-old 400 metre freestyle and Bryson Hammer placed second in boys 13 and 14-year-old 200 metre freestyle, second in 400 metre freestyle and third in 50 metre backstroke. Ella and Max Kruger placed second in girls 11 and 12-year-old 50 metre backstroke, as well as placing second in boys 13 and 14-year-old 100 metre breast, 200 metre freestyle and 100 metre backstroke respectively.
Teagan Lester-Olivier placed second in girls 9 and 10-year-old 100 metre freestyle while her brother Travis placed third in the boys 12 and under 400 metre freestyle and third in boys 9 and 10-year-old 100 metre individual medley. Jade Macosky finished first in girls 15 to 17-year-old 200 metre freestyle and third in 100 metre butterfly. Bria Michalski placed second in girls 13 and 14-year-old 400 metre freestyle and Josie Powers placed first in girls 11 and 12-year-old 50 metre breaststroke and third in both 100 metre breast and 100 metre butterfly.
Caebri Smith placed second in boys nine and 10-year-old 100 metre freestyle, Mackinley Smith placed first in girls six and under 25 metre flutter board, 50 metre backstroke, 25 metre backstroke and 25 metre freestyle, Aaron Swedlo placed second in boys 11 and 12-year-old 100 metre butterfly while his sister Catherine placed third in girls 13 and 14 year old 50 metre freestyle and 100 metre butterfly. Finishing off the individual portion of the event is Evan Thibodeau who placed third in boys seven and eight-year-old 50 metre breaststroke.
The Piranhas also met with some team success the relay portion of the meet.
Piranhas head coach Breanna Hendriks said she was impressed with her team's performance at the meet. "Okotoks went well. We continued to improve and all the athletes showed that they've been working hard in order to improve," Hendriks said. "It was a tough few weeks as we had back-to-back swim meet weekends so it was great to have a rest over this past long weekend."In the girls 17 and under 200 metre medley relay, the team of Kyla Fritz, Bria Michalski, Jade Macosky and Catherine Swedlo placed third while the girls 17 and under team of Bria Michalski, Jade Macosky, Kyla Fritz and Catherine Swedlo also placed third in the 200 metre freestyle relay. First place was secured by the team of Anjali Simms, Bryson Hammer, Jake Barclay and Ella Kruger in the mixed 17 and under 200 metre medley relay while second place was won by Madison Fisher Boroff, Evan Thibodeau, Mackinley Smith, Jacob Wowryk in the mixed eight and under 100 metre freestyle relay.
In the mixed 10 and under 100 metre freestyle event, Kaitlyn Eiserman, Travis Lester-Olivier, Rylee Bashow and Caebri Smith swam to a second place finish with the team of Teagan Lester-Olivier, Isaac Thibodeau, Eli Fitzsimmons and Kylan Morin swam to a third place finish in the mixed 10 and under freestyle relay. Also in the mixed 10 and under 100 metre medley relay, Eli Fitzsimmons, Rylee Bashow, Kaitlyn Eiserman and Travis Lester-Olivier swam to a first place finish.
To finish off the event, in the mixed 17 and under 200 metre freestyle relay the team of Jake Barclay, Josie Powers, Danica Marks and Max Kruger swam to a second place finish.
The club had the Canada Day long weekend off before the next swim meet which will take place July 7 in Didsbury.
