If Cochrane Crush could throw back one inning this season, it would be the third inning in the league-championship game.
Down 4-2 to host Airdrie in Alberta District 3 Little League Senior Big League final action, Crush put two quick outs in the books before Airdrie went on an eight-run, two-out tear to basically put the game away in a 16-6 final played at Airdrie’s Chinook Winds Park on June 25.
“Take away that third inning, this is really a close ball game,” said Crush coach Jeff Avery following the contest called in the bottom of the fifth after Airdrie put up a 10-run lead.
“But this is a young team, and that’s a learning process,” Avery remarked. “We’ll get better. Next year, we’re going to win this game.”
Crush beat Airdrie at home in the regular season
“Last year we won four games, this year we made it to the final,” Avery enthused of his team’s silver-medal finish. “We’re still young. Everyone’s eligible to return except Josh (Dees).”
