Cochrane Generals The Cochrane Generals continued their winning ways this weekend snapping up four points after defeating Strathmore (6-4) and Coaldale (5-4). The Generals welcomed back their captain, Brandon Aab, who missed 13 games due to illness.

The Cochrane Generals continued their winning ways this weekend snapping up four points after defeating Strathmore (6-4) and Coaldale (5-4).

The Generals welcomed back their captain, Brandon Aab, who missed 13 games due to illness. Despite the long absence, he came back strong showing why he wears the C on his jersey scoring a goal and adding an assist against Strathmore. Knute Loe stopped a penalty shot (and kept the Generals in the game in the third when he was peppered with 18 shots. Harry Osler and Scott Shugg each had a pair of goals.

Aab also scored a goal in the Generals win over Coaldale. Other generals to hit the score sheet were Braeden Bain (two goals and an assist), Scott Shugg (one goal) and River Ross (one goal). Takura Okada, Cade Chudleigh, Jordan Marks and Chris Sambrook each tallied helpers.

Tuesday’s game against the second-place Okotoks Bisons was another notch in the win column for the Generals. Cochrane’s team handed the Bisons a 5-3 whooping.

The next home game for Cochrane is Jan. 11 when they host the Ponoka Stampeders. Puck drop is 7:30 p.m.

The Generals have a solid hold on third place with 38 points, 10 back of first-place Coaldale and three points back of second-place Okotoks. Medicine Hat sits fourth with 29 points.

HJHL All-Star Game

Captains Chris Sambrook, Brandon Aab and D-man Jordan Marks took part in the HJHL All-Star game win on Sunday. This is the second year in a row the South won the game in a shootout over the north. The final score was 5-4.

Both Aab and Marks put up points in the game.

Learn To Skate

The Cochrane Skating Club has its winter CanSkate program set to start Jan. 14.

Pre-CanSkate is a non-parented class designed for children three to four years of age, who have never skated before or who are not yet confident on the ice. Class options are listed below.

CanSkate is designed for skaters four to 15 years of age. It is a dynamic learn-to-skate program that focuses on fun, participation and basic skill development. Skaters will learn a complete series of balance, control and agility skills taught in six stages of learning that pertain to hockey, ringette, speed skating and figure skating as well as general recreational skating.

Soccer registration

Cochrane Minor Soccer's registration for Grassroots and First Kicks for the January to March 2019 session is now open, check out http://932kick.com/ for more info and the registration page.

Outdoor Registration is coming in early February.

Footstock

While it might not be until June, it's never too early to start thinking about Footstock.

The 2019 rendition of the popular event is set for June 2 and organizers are looking for volunteers  to help get the event off to a running start for its 20th year.

Footstock Race Weekend will include the following exciting events along the scenic Bow River

• 5 km fun run along the scenic Bow River, 10 km run along the scenic Bow River, Kids Triathlon for ages: three to 15 at the Spray Lakes Family Sports Centre.

This year will mark the 23rd annual running of the Trevor Dickson Memorial Kids Triathlon which was started in Cochrane three years before the introduction of the Footstock running events formally known as the Cochrane Challenge. Volunteers also get a shot at prizes from some of the event sponsors.

Lacrosse

The Rocky View Lacrosse Association is acceptin registrations for the 2019 season.
There are six divisions of play available.

PeeWee (Born 2007-2008)
Bantam (Born 2005-2006)
Midget (Born 2003-2004)
Registration deadline is March 15.

‘A’ Division Tryouts to give all players interested in playing on an ‘A’ level lacrosse team a good look, and in an effort to streamline the tryout process, Rocky View Lacrosse will hold initial try-outs beginning the week of March 17.
