By Travis Cummings Special to the Eagle St. Timothy’s athletics department is thrilled to have seen athletes compete at Calgary High School City Swim Championships on Dec. 6 at Repsol Place in Calgary. The school’s athletes have been working hard the past two months in preparation for the day’s competition. In the school’s inaugural swim season, the Thunder saw seven athletes contest various swimming events, with strong results across the board. St. Timothy’s first swimming city championship was won by Bria Michalski in the girls 50m breaststroke, she swam a personal best in a highly-competitive race. Following Bria’s historic results, Eric Swedlo won two bronze medals for the Thunder swim team in the boys 50m freestyle and 50m breaststroke. Also posting strong results were Kennedy Michalski, Morgan Jeffries, Emily Carvalho, Jack Bentley, and Trevor Goodram. Many of these athletes are active in various swim clubs in the town currently or have been involved with one in the past; including the Comets, the Piranhas, and the Cochrane Water Ninjas. The school is very happy to be able to offer this high school program to give some of our hardworking swimmers in the community some recognition at the school level. Many of these athletes sacrifice opportunities to play on school teams so they can swim in their respective clubs, swimming is a very time consuming, demanding sport; the St. Tim’s community feels very privileged to offer these deserving athletes the chance to shine in front of their school peers. Coaches Michelle Cornish, Pam Moores, Amy Swedlo, and Travis Cummings are ecstatic with the outcome of our inaugural season, the athletes who competed this season have laid a solid foundation for the school team to build on going forward into the future. St. Timothy’s would also like to thank the Aquatics staff at Spray Lakes Rec and Leisure Center for accommodating our early morning pool times to make this happen for out students. Great job Thunder Aquatics!
